Do You Decorate Around Your TV?

Do You Decorate Around Your TV?

I admit it, my tv addtiction.  I watch a lot of it, & I kind of love it.  There isn’t a tv in my bathroom, but that might be the only room where one isn’t present (yet).  So from a decorating perspective, the tv becomes the focal point of the room – whether to hang it, hide it, decorate it, & how to arrange everything else around it. At my store, “housing” the television and its components is always a hot topic.  My favorite customers to help with this are couples, because nothing else typifies the gender wars in decorating more.  It usually goes one of two ways:  1) the […]

Kitchen Redo from Elements of Style

I am a longtime reader & fan of Erin Gates’ blog Elements of Style.  Erin lives in Boston, & is a designer but also a lover of fashion & culture so her blog is always a fun read.  Just as seen through the internet, she also seems like a genuinely nice person & is all the more endearing for how transparent she has been in some of her struggles, namely with a body image/eating disorder – of which one post was published as an article in Ladies’ Home Journal. Erin & her husband recently bought a house, which they are in the process or redoing.  She’s been sharing that process […]

Weekend Travel Inspiration – Calistoga Ranch

Weekend Travel Inspiration – Calistoga Ranch

A couple of years ago on a trip to Napa Valley, a friend & I stayed at the Kenwood Inn & Spa.  I’ve been to Napa a few times, but I wanted to stay somewhere a little off the radar that beckoned staying in as much as getting out.  The Kenwood Inn did not disappoint.  I’ll save it for a future post! While we were there, we wanted to see another place we’d read about, Calistoga Ranch.  It’s been a dream of mine to stay at an Auberge Resort, but my travel budget & my dreams have yet to intersect.  Calistoga Ranch is one of the Auberge’s group’s more innovative […]

Sitting Room in the Kitchen

Sitting Room in the Kitchen

When I was in 3rd grade, we lived in Greenville, Mississippi, in one of what we kids thought was the coolest houses ever.  The neighborhood was at the edge of town, with big shady lots for each house.  Ours had a playhouse in the backyard, a “tunnel” (which was actually a crawl space in the attic) upstairs between mine & my brother’s bedrooms, & the kids across the street had dirt bikes that we could ride around the neighborhood’s green spaces & empty lots.  But the thing I remember is that the kitchen had a banquette.  Why that would make an impression on an 8 year old, I’m not sure, […]

Design Crush: Ashley Goforth Interiors

Design Crush: Ashley Goforth Interiors

I first saw Houston interior designer Ashley Goforth’s work on a Cote de Texas blog.  Initially what grabbed my attention was how often she used Fiddleleaf fig trees in her rooms, & how great they looked.  Truthfully, there aren’t many good looking indoor trees that can be kept alive for any amount of time – outside of California, anyway, but the Fiddleleaf fig is an exception. But then – wait.  Her rooms are flat gorgeous!  This bedroom, like her work in general, is clean & fresh, modern yet warm.  Love the rug, the simplicity of the upholstered bed, & the beautiful panels on the windows.  Not too feminine, yet with […]
