Online Design

As our Facebook following has grown, along with word of mouth (the BEST advertising!), we hear from so many people who are interested in our pieces but don’t live near Dallas. And we get lots of questions via phone & e-mail from people who DO live closer but are so busy & don’t have time to devote to shopping. So I am super excited that my long awaited vision of offering online design services to customers is close to coming to fruition! Our design rockstar, Hayley, helped me with a project for a customer, & I wanted to share it here to give an idea of what we’ll be doing. […]

draperjames Nashville

I’ve seen several articles online on Reese Witherspoon and the opening of her brick & mortar store in Nashville. I’ve never paid much attention to it online, but now I’m a little obsessed with the design of the store (courtesy of Mark D. Sikes).     This awning makes my heart race! It’s got me thinking about changing ours at the store, at least the one over the door!     This navy grasscloth behind the desk is gorgeous! And I want that light fixture, too. I can’t remember who the manufacturer is, but I think the retail price was $22,500. I don’t think that would be one we could […]

Fixer Upper Goes Mid-Century

Yes, like most everyone, I am on the Fixer Upper bandwagon. I heard of the show from Joni Webb on her Cote de Texas blog during the first season, and I was instantly hooked. Not only are Joanna & Chip Gaines fun & personable & authentic, they have a great design eye. I think the show kind of plays down Chip’s contribution in that area, but given that he was an established builder long before the show started I imagine he can hold his own. The show has definitely given HGTV, which hasn’t really put anything interesting on in a long time, a boost. And of course, since the Gaines’ […]

Things We Love – Wallpapered Foyers

There’s that old saying, “You only get one chance to make a first impression,” and for your house, that first impression is your entry or foyer. My favorite foyers are ones that have a distinct footprint – I like to step inside to a foyer that is it’s own space, then move on into the rest of the house. And that design in a foyer just begs to give off a little ‘wow.’   I love the glimpse we get into this foyer with it’s cheetah spot stencil, which could easily pass for wallpaper.  Ordinarily I would think this is a little over the top, but it’s perfectly set off […]

Our Bathroom Redo

Our Bathroom Redo

The store moved into our Lovers Lane space in 2007, and when we did, we made some pretty significant changes to the interior of the store so it flowed and showed better. The space has apparently been many things in previous lives – at one point it was broken up into some mixture of tanning salon + wedding dress boutique + nail salon and maybe a little lunch spot, too. So we pulled out the restaurant equipment, and the row of cabinets + sinks that was in the middle of the store.  We added wood flooring that we found in a salvage yard – narrow strips with a 60’s […]
